Electromagnetism and the Invisible Ship Experiment

With an attempt to make an invisible to the naked eye and undetectable by radar ships, the Navy sponsored an experiment that forever haunted them with controversy, unbelievable stories and probably nightmares.

There have been many stories surrounding this experiment as witnesses came out with incredible and shocking tales of time travel, being stuck in time, and teleportation. The ship, the USS Eldridge, had undergone a series of investigations including its deck log and war diary that stated the places where the ship had gone and the time when those travels occurred. It is important for people to know when, where, and how this actually happened.

There was a study conducted by the University of Chicago in 1930 that probes into the possibility of making things invisible through the use of electricity. This was perhaps a likely explanation of the unlikely event. The Navy also explained the process of "degaussing" where the ship is bound in electrical wires. An electrical current is then passed through these wires that turn off the ships magnetic field thus making it invisible to magnetic mines. Several witnesses who identified themselves as crew members also recounted horrifying stories of being thrust to the bulkheads, of disappearing, and time traveling. Some claimed they had been brainwashed to keep the experiment a secret.

An explanation that the ship had two large electromagnets on each hull was offered. When these electromagnets were turned on in a calculated sequence, the force created was so strong they could defy gravity itself. There was also an account of the ship not just becoming invisible but actually vanishing and reappearing in its original site in Philadelphia. With these many stories, one fact believed by many is that an electromagnetic field engulfed the ship, making it appear as a green blur.

This experiment is one of the favorite topics of literature and movies as until now it still remains a mystery that electromagnetically engulfs America.
